About

FAQ Off is a reference on venture funding and the companies it produced, from Fairchild Semiconductor in 1957 to the filings of the present decade.

Every entry here is built from a document that exists: a registration statement, a prospectus, a merger agreement, a regulator’s closing order, an indictment, an exchange record. Where a private valuation is cited, the database it came from is named. Where a figure will go stale, the date it was taken sits in the sentence.

The site is organised in five sections. Record follows named companies through the events they filed. Money covers where the capital came from and what the instruments looked like. Losses holds the documented failures. Vocabulary gives each coined term its author and its year. Addresses covers the places and the databases that kept score.

Nothing on the site is investment guidance, and none of it is written as instruction. The machinery is the subject.
